Dermal Fillers / Lip Fillers

Our face naturally changes with age and slowly loses subcutaneous fat that causes sagging and a less defined structure. Dermal fillers can help add support, volume and lift to areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, tear troughs and temples. They can also be used to fill lines associated with ageing, for example, around the nose, mouth and chin, to minimize their appearance.

Creating structure to support existing facial tissue

Dermal Fillers are a safe treatment that can smooth lines under the eyes and around the nose, mouth and chin. They can also be used to replace volume loss in the mid and lower face. Used correctly they can provide a fresher version of you without changing the way you look, or making you look ‘over filled’.

Our approach to using Dermal Fillers

At Select Aesthetics we use FDA/MHRA approved ‘Juvederm as our standard and premium dermal filler. We also use Ouye’ for our economy range of dermal fillers. Both brands of our dermal fillers have been tested and proven to be of the highest quality which is extremely important to us at Select Aesthetics. Having both brands enables us to offer varying price ranges and options for clients, to suit all budgets, without compromising on quality. Composed of Hyaluronic Acid, they are non-permanent fillers that sit below the skin layer and wear off over time. Fillers can last between 6 months - 2 years, depending on the product used and the area treated.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers help smooth skin and wrinkles through small injections administered beneath the skin. There are four categories of fillers, each suited to different aesthetic functions. The most commonly used is Hyaluronic Acid, that is naturally produced by the body. It is found within your skin and cartilage. At Select Aesthetics, we only used Hyaluronic Acid based fillers and therefore all procedures and non-permanent.

As we age the our skin’s ability to retain moisture diminishes leaving us with wrinkles, folds and lines. Hyaluronic Acid fillers replace this lost hydration and restore a more plumpness and volume to our skin.

How long do they last?

The short answer, it depends. Dermal hyaluronic acid fillers are a temporary treatment, as the effects of the treatment wear off over time. Generally, they can last between 6 – 24 months. How long they last will depend on the type of filler the practitioner administers and the area chosen to be injected.

The best way to extend the life of your filler results is to regularly undergo “maintenance” treatments before your results wear off.

6 Months to 1 Year

These are mostly long-lasting lip fillers, including Juvederm Ultra, Volift and Volbella. These fillers have been specially formulated to be resistant to the high levels of facial movement that causes the reduction of the effects of dermal fillers.

12-24 Months

This category of fillers are termed ‘long-lasting’ as they can remain in place for up to 24 months. Juvederm Voluma and Volux are used on the cheeks Jaw and chin. As they are a thicker, more robust type of Hyaluronic Acid they can last up to 2 years. Routine ‘top-up’ appointments can be used for maintenance.

Dermal Filler FAQs

What will happen at my appointment?

A personalised treatment plan will be devised between you and your aesthetics practitioner to reflect your desired look. Prior to the procedure a specialist numbing cream will be applied to the area/s. Once the cream has taken effect, the procedure will begin. The treatment itself will take around 30 minutes.

Are there any side-effects?

Just like any procedure, there are potential side effects, but not everyone will experience them. You will most likely experience a small amount of redness and swelling, immediately after the treatment and maybe bruising. This usually subsides within a couple of days. Many clients go straight back to work after their treatment the following day. Any temporary discomfort can usually be treated with over-the-counter painkillers.

How long until I notice results?

You can expect to see results almost immediately. While everyone is different and individual results vary, most patients see their results within 24 to 48 hours after their injections, however the full effect will be seen at two weeks post procedure once full healing has taken place. There is no down time associated with dermal fillers, so an immediate return to normal life is possible.

Are dermal fillers a safe treatment?

At Select Aesthetics we only use Hyaluronic Acid based dermal fillers. ‘Juvederm’ amd ‘Ouye’ are our products of choice. A natural compound, Hyaluronic acid is metabolized by your body and therefore wear off over time. All dermal fillers used at Select Aesthetics are FDA and MHRA approved and CE marked. These agencies advise you to work with a licensed health care provider and understand all risks and benefits before receiving treatment. This can be assured at Select Aesthetics.

Will it hurt?

Prior to the procedure a specialist numbing cream will be applied to the area/s. Furthermore, all dermal fillers used at Select Aesthetics all include Lidocaine. This is a local anaesthetic that maximises pain relief upon injection. This is particularly beneficial for use in sensitive areas such as the lips.

Which filler is right for me?

This will depend on your desired look. An initial discussion between you and your aesthetic practitioner will take place to understand your expectations and budget. We will then develop a personalised treatment plan to include certain types of filler and share this with you. At Select Aesthetics we use ‘Juvederm’ and ‘Ouye’ dermal fillers, which are FDA/ MHRA approved, CE marked, fully licenced, safe and industry leading. But we welcome you to do your own research.
