Jaw Clenching / Teeth Grinding/TMD

Do you grind your teeth, have pain in your jaw and possibly suffer with associated headaches? Botulinum Toxin injections may help.

Teeth grinding is a condition called bruxism. It can lead to pain, headaches, jaw problems associated with the TMJ (Temporomandibular joint) and damaged teeth. Research reports that Injecting small doses of Botox (botulinum toxin) directly into the masseter muscle (the chewing muscles in the jaw), weakens the muscle enough to stop habitual grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw. It significantly relaxes the muscle and reduces the wear and tear on the teeth. This treatment can also have a slimming effect to the jaw line and therefore sometimes requested for an aesthetic purpose.

Do You have TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder)

Symptoms of TMD include:

  • pain around your jaw, ear and temple

  • clicking, popping or grinding noises when you move your jaw

  • a headache around your temples

  • difficulty opening your mouth fully

  • your jaw locking when you open your mouth

The pain may be worse when chewing and when you feel stressed. TMD can also stop you getting a good night's sleep. Botulinum Toxin (we use Botox), can be an effective treatment and solution for pain associated with TMD.
